NEW: Dutch Journal of Lifestyle Medicine

The Dutch Society of Lifestyle Medicine launches a fresh, glossy magazine about lifestyle medicine. A 21st century magazine that focuses on the healthy life of the future.

A healthy lifestyle, and in particular nutritional behavior, is becoming increasingly important within medicine and health care. Also in our personal life, it is becoming increasingly clear that we can eat ourselves sick but also healthier. Where we used to think that our genes were all-determining, we now know that this is not the case, and more than 80% of the most common chronic diseases are lifestyle-related.

The best example, of course, is type 2 diabetes: the fastest growing health crisis of our time, a disease that affects over 29.1 million people in the United States (and 8.1 million may be undiagnosed and unaware of their condition). About 1.4 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in United States every year.

The Dutch Journal of Lifestyle Medicine (Lifestyle as medicine) focuses on the healthy life of the future. It offers accessible, practical, inspiring and always evidence-based knowledge about the role of lifestyle, nutrition in the prevention, treatment or reversal of chronic disorders. From various perspectives, such as the most recent scientific research and policy, but also the daily lifestyle medicine- and doctor’s practice, the magazine offers an in-depth insight to be more successful with lifestyle interventions.

Chief editor Annemarie de Vries-Postma: “Vitally participating in our society from young to old, while at the same time keeping healthcare affordable at a high quality level; that is the challenge we face. The government increasingly places responsibility for a healthy life on the citizens, but then people must be provided with the right, well-founded information and practical tools. This also applies to healthcare professionals, such as lifestyle coaches, and also doctors and medical specialists who want to bring lifestyle medicine into daily practice. A magazine like this did not yet exist for them either ”.

The Dutch Journal of Lifestyle Medicine (Lifestyle as medicine) appears 4 times a year, has a circulation of 45,000 copies, and is available free of charge from, among others, the pharmacy, drugstore, Eko Plaza stores and Gezond & Wel stores from the end of June 2019.
